At 18:53 Thursday evening Goochland Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the east end of the county. Units arrived on scene to find Smoke and melted siding on the side of the house. Crews found fire in the wall that had extended from a freestanding wood stove. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and ventilated the structure. Residents were not displaced.
At 23:32 units were dispatched to a second residential structure fire with reported fire through the roof. Crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from the home and fire through the roof. All residents had evacuated. Firefighters deployed a handline and pulled the ceiling to extinguish the fire in the attic. Crews laddered the roof and used chainsaws to access and extinguish multiple pockets of fire. The incident was marked under control at 00:05. Crews continued to operate until 03:15 to ensure all fire extension was extinguished. The family is being helped by the red cross.
