Captain John S. Orgain is highly deserving and has diligently prepared himself for this promotion over the years. John joined Goochland County Fire-Rescue in May 2017 as a volunteer member with Manakin Co. 1, transitioning to a career member in 2021, and was promoted to Lieutenant in August 2023. He has been assigned to Stations 1, 3, and 5. Captain Orgain is very involved with the Training & Safety Division and has served as an instructor for several fire academies. He is a graduate of Hampden Sydney College and a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. John has also completed the Metro Richmond Public Safety Leadership Academy. In 2024, he received the “Dewitt Clinton Lodge No. 141 Career Firefighter of the Year” Public Safety Award. Captain Orgain’s positive attitude is extremely contagious, and he is a proven effective leader and instructor.
Outside of Goochland, he has served in Prince Edward County as a volunteer member of the Hampden-Sydney Vol. Fire Department and part-time EMS provider for Meherrin Vol. Fire Department. He gained 2 years of logistics experience as a part-time civilian employee with the Henrico County Division of Fire assigned to the Air Utility unit. Additionally, he is a part-time Firefighter/EMT with Powhatan County Fire Rescue. John would like to thank his supportive fiancé, friends and family for their unwavering support and he is humbled to serve in this new role with the department.
