I am pleased to announce Mr. Anthony J. “Tony” Gordon has been selected to serve as our part-time career Deputy Fire-Rescue Chief. Tony Gordon is currently the volunteer Deputy Fire-Rescue Chief and is a 42-year veteran member of Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services.
Deputy Chief Gordon joined Goochland Courthouse Company 5 in 1982 at the age of 16 and went on to become one of the first Advanced Life Support Providers in the department. Deputy Chief Gordon rose through the ranks of company leadership serving as Lieutenant and District Chief. He achieved Lifetime Membership status in 2001 for his faithful service to our community.
In 2009, he was appointed by the Fire-Rescue Chief and the Association Board of Directors as Deputy Chief of Operations as a volunteer, overseeing all six Fire-Rescue companies. His many years of service, institutional knowledge, and skill make him a perfect fit for today’s position. He is responsible for emergency operations management for both volunteer and career resources. He provides human resource management to the organization, and mentorship to fellow members and officers. He is a VDEM credentialed Incident Commander, Operations Section Chief and Planning Section Chief serving in these roles for numerous major events and incidents in the region over the years. He is a member of the Central VA All Hazards Incident Management Team. He assists with updating and writing policies and procedures for our department and assists with overseeing our fleet of over 55 emergency vehicles, fire apparatus and ambulances, including budget management.
While serving the Fire-Rescue Department as a volunteer, Deputy Chief Tony Gordon has been engaged in a parallel public safety career track as a law enforcement officer. He served as a dispatcher and Sheriff Deputy for the Goochland County Sheriff Office for ten years. He later went on to complete an 18-year career with Henrico Division of Police and retired in 2017 as Captain of the Homeland Security/Special Operations Unit. Over the past seven years he has served with the FBI in the Richmond Field Office as an Administrative Officer. Deputy Chief Gordon holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice Degree. In March of this year, he was granted by the Goochland Rotary Club the “2024 Annual Community Recognition Award”.
Deputy Chief Tony Gordon has devoted his life to serving the citizens of Goochland County through public service both as a Fire-Rescue volunteer and as a law enforcement officer. He is well respected and appreciated by his peers. He values family and is very active in his church. He believes in getting to know everyone he works with personally, and promotes an atmosphere of effective communication, accountability, fairness, and true teamwork to make our organization successful. He is married to his wife, Amy and has two grown daughters, Taylor, and Madison.
